AMATORSKI

Na een hiatus van enkele jaren brengt Amatorski op 1 maart 2024 hun nieuwe album Curves and Bends, Things Veer uit, opnieuw via het Crammed Discs-label. Het album, vernoemd naar Timothy Morton's All Art is Ecological, verlegt de focus van interpersoonlijke relaties naar het onderzoeken van de verhoudingen tussen mens en natuur, tijd en fenomenen, geïnspireerd door taoïstische poëzie (vertaald door Ursula K. Le Guin) en het werk van Anna Tsing en anderen. Recente mondiale gebeurtenissen, zoals de pandemie, de klimaatverandering en de Black Lives Matters-protesten in 2020, hebben daarnaast ook de creatie van het album beïnvloed.

Voor de shows maakt beeldend kunstenaar Winnie Claessens verschillende miniatuur installaties waarbij (natuurlijke) objecten, materialen of texturen ingezet worden. In samenwerking met scenograaf Lucas Van Haesbroeck wordt een scenografie uitgewerkt met de installaties, camera’s en projecties. De live uitvoering verkent zo op een ruimtelijke manier het album, en zet op een unieke manier een zoektocht op tussen mens, natuur, technologie en fenomenen, verweven met de live uitvoering van de muziek door Amatorski.

After a hiatus of several years, Amatorski are set to release their new album Curves and Bends, Things Veer on March 1st 2024, once again through the Crammed Discs label. The album, titled after Timothy Morton's All Art is Ecological, shifts focus from interpersonal relations to exploring the relationships between humans and nature, time and phenomena, inspired by Taoist poetry (translated by Ursula K. Le Guin) and the works of Anna Tsing among others. Recent global events, such as the pandemic, climate change, and the Black Lives Matters protests in 2020, have also influenced the creation of the album.

For the live performance of the album, visual artist Winnie Claessens creates various miniature installations using (natural) objects, materials, or textures. In collaboration with scenographer Lucas Van Haesbroeck, a scenography is created with the installations, cameras and projections. The live performance explores the album in a spatial way, and sets up its own search between the human, nature, technology and phenomena, interwoven with the live performance of the music by Amatorski.
