Alternatieve popband Tin Fingers releaset Glow, het eerste nummer van hun debuutalbum

Tin Fingers bracht in de zomer van 2017 de No Hero EP uit, vol nummers met een aanstekelijk vintage alt-popgeluid, dat naadloos paste in het Belgische indie- en cultverhaal. De band, die bekendstaat om zijn dromerige songs en explosieve maar romantische liveshows, veroverde zaal na zaal, haast nonchalant, maar altijd op een meeslepende manier. Met een intense en kleurrijke show op Pukkelpop zette Tin Fingers een feestelijk uitroepteken achter zijn eerste grote tournee.

Off-grid om te schrijven. Nadat de band besloot dat zanger Felix Machtelinckx alleen zou starten met schrijven van het debuutalbum, trok hij zich een maand lang terug in het flatje van zijn grootmoeder Lilly, met weids uitzicht op de duinen en de Belgische kustlijn. Het leverde een open, galmend geluid op dat baadt in melancholie en nostalgie. Toen de andere bandleden Quinten de Cuyper en Michaël Lamiroy hem op deze afgelegen plek gingen opzoeken, kreeg de nieuwe Tin Fingers-sound vaste vorm. Tin Fingers haalt kermend uit over de liefde en plaatst kritische voetnoten bij de zinderende wereld waarin we leven, de intimiteit en privacy van geliefden. De band slalomt tussen onderwerpen en gevoelens, het oude en het nieuwe, het nabije en het verre, het wilde en het getemde. Geluiden werden vanuit het niets gecreëerd, oude synthesizer-blips en -beeps werden gesampled en getweaked, ruwere organische ritmes gemengd met meer vintage house drumbox grooves. Drummer Marnix van Soom en bassist Simen Wouters gingen op jacht naar een primitieve en diepe flow om zo op hun manier de statische elektronische beats tegen te kleuren. Een eigen geluid, los van invloeden. Van meet af aan was het duidelijk dat dit album niet perfect moest worden. Het zou DIY zijn, of niet zijn. Tin Fingers sloeg een nieuwe richting in, en daarna nog eens. Zichzelf herontdekken was niet het uitgangspunt, wel een eigen stijl definiëren. Het resultaat: meer elektronische beats op smaak gebracht met koekjes van eigen deeg, en een sfeer vol imperfecties en contrasterende emoties.

Het album is het verslag van een zoektocht naar een plek in een onvolmaakte wereld. Ja, alles komt goed, en ja, we hebben redenen te over om gelukkig te zijn. Maar toch, je voelt dat er iets ontbreekt.
Almost Never No Love gaat over die onvolmaaktheid. De perfecte liefde zal nooit perfect zijn. En gelukkig maar, want zo is het perfect.

14.02.2020 Tin Fingers speelt een Valentijnshow in Ancienne Belgique waar ze hun nieuwe album presenteren. De releasedatum wordt binnenkort bekendgemaakt.

De eerste single heeft een A- en een B-kant.

De A-kant Glow is een dromerig maar tegelijkertijd lekker opwindend popnummer over ups en downs. De zanger speelt in op de twijfels en depressies van de mensen in zijn omgeving, en erkent dat hij, net als wij allemaal in deze verwarrende tijden, op zoek is naar een zekere glow, een hartverwarmende gloed. Geef de hoop niet op, er is best nog veel schoonheid te vinden.

De titel van de B-kant I Love The Countryside spreekt voor zich. Natuur, stilte, uitgestrektheid.

Tin Fingers is een in Antwerpen, België gevestigde alternatieve popband – explosief maar intiem, somber maar romantisch, eigentijds maar nostalgisch, teder en schattig maar ook donker en dromerig. Wat ze maken is popmuziek met een hoek af. Tin Fingers klinkt anders dan wat je gewend bent maar toch ook weer vertrouwd. De band vindt zichzelf voortdurend opnieuw uit, en gaat van folk over psychedelische rock en indie tot meer elektronische, DIY-gerichte, catchy organische alternatieve pop.

Tin Fingers released their No Hero EP in the summer of 2017, sporting a catchy vintage alt pop sound that resonated deep into the indie cult veins of Belgium. The band, known for its dreamy tunes and explosive yet romantic live shows, conquered venues in a nonchalant but nevertheless compelling way. Tin Fingers ended their first major tour on a high with an intense and colourful show at Pukkelpop.

Going off grid to write. After the band agreed that singer Felix Machtelinckx would commence the writing of the debut album on his own, he locked himself away for a month in his grandmother Lilly’s small seaside apartment. With the dunes and the Belgian coastline as a backdrop, he forged an open reverberated sound draped in melancholy and nostalgia. When the other band members Quinten de Cuyper and Michaël Lamiroy joined him at the remote hideaway, a fresh Tin Fingers sound emerged. Howling about love, contemplating today’s electrified world and the intimacy and privacy of lovers, Tin Fingers are whirling subjects and feelings around, mixing the old and the new, the near and the far, the wild and the tamed. Sounds were created from scratch, old synthesizer blips and beeps were sampled and tweaked, rougher organic rhythms were mixed with vintage house drumbox grooves. Drummer Marnix van Soom and Bassist Simen Wouters hunted for a more primitive and deep flow to contrast the static electronic beats. Doing so, the band wanted to break free from influences. Writing the perfect album was never on the table. DIY was the only way. Tin Fingers took a turn, and then another one, not rediscovering themselves but redefining their style, yet again. Expect more electronic beats and homemade flavours, and an atmosphere full of imperfections and contrasting emotions.

The album is a search for a place in an imperfect world. Yes, everything will be fine, and yes, you have every reason to be happy. But still, you feel something is missing.
Almost Never No Love is about imperfection. The perfect love will never be perfect. And it’s perfect that way.
